Environment & Technology Verification (ETV)
Programme

About ETV
The Environment & Technology Verification (ETV) is the most comprehensive technology commercialisation and acceleration programme for India that extends to all emerging markets.

The process delivers the following:
-
Technology validation for India and other emerging markets
-
Creating a supply chain, partner and delivery eco-system in India extending to other emerging markets
-
A market entry pathway for the high-impact technology solutions
-
Establishing the First of a Kind (FOAK) commercial demonstration project
-
Scaling up of technology in India and other emerging markets - Nth of a Kind (NOAK)

Making Climate and Impact technologies Accessible, Affordable, and Available to the Global South can solve systemic issues
Salient Features of the ETV Programme

-
The ETV is a unique technology commercialisation & acceleration programme that specialises in introducing "First-of-a-kind (FOAK)" solutions to market.
-
The programme is based in India but covers all emerging market nations.
-
With over 60 technologies from 18 countries going through the ETV programme, it has become one of, if not the most advanced such programmes in the world.
-
Working in partnership with the technology proponents, industry partners, governments and domain experts from academia, the programme uses the proprietary VIPERS Methodology to deliver an "India" and emerging markets ready turnkey solution.
-
ETV is not a technology R&D process, but only takes proven solutions and creates a commercial pathway.

TRL / CRL / IRL Scoring

Technology Readiness Level (TRL)

For investors and buyers of technology, it is critical to understand where the technology is placed on the overall maturity curve. This is best understood through the "Technology Readiness Level (TRL)" score.

In the ETV evaluation process, the TRL score is one of the most critical parameters.

Furthermore, Bharatia has evolved the TRL scoring framework to an EM-TRL or Emerging Markets-TRL, which provides a more realistic technology readiness score for India and other emerging markets.
Commercial Readiness Level (CRL)

Technology without the support of right commercial model will struggle to make it to the market. An indicator of the maturity level of both the commercial offering around the solution as well as company's internal commercial standing is best understood through the "Commercial Readiness Level (TRL)" score.

Much like the TRL score, Bharatia has evolved the CRL scoring framework as well to an EM-CRL or Emerging Markets-CRL, which provides a more realistic technology readiness score for India and other emerging markets.

Impact Readiness Level (IRL)

It is not enough to introduce the high-impact technology based solutions just once to the market, but also essential that the solution is scaled up globally for the betterment of society. Measuring impact is a complex process as it involves understanding of both qualitative and quantitative variables. Whlist there are many models available, Bharatia uses a proprietary "Impact Readiness Level (IRL)" score for impact measurement assessment.

Bharatia has also developed an enhanced model to measure impact in India and other emerging markets through EM-IRL or Emerging Markets-IRL model.

Technology Evaluation, Assessment & Certification
Panel Formation
A panel of experts does the assessment for each technology that is enrolled in the ETV process. The panel is made up of a programme manager, a government appointed representative and subject matter experts. The technology applicant is able to nominate an observer to the panel for full transparency.
Evaluation
The ETV panel evaluates the solution at two stages: (1) A desktop evaluation at the beginning that includes establishing the KPIs for what constitutes success, and (2) evaluation at the project level.

The panel does not take a pass/fail approach to the evaluation exercise, but assumes a developmental role so as to always support the technology applicant to keep moving forwards by identifying gaps and proposing solutions to fill those gape.
Certification
The panel issues certificates of assessment at the end of both evaluation stages. If needed, in addition to the certificate, the panel can also provide a detailed evaluation report including TRL/CRL/IRL scores and analysis.
