India - Slovenia SITE Network launched

SITE: Science, Innovation, Technology and Economics


In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral cooperation, the Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), has announced the establishment of the India Slovenia Science, Innovation, Technology and Economic (SITE) Network. This ground-breaking initiative aims to leverage the rapid economic growth and technological advancements of India and Slovenia, fostering a symbiotic relationship that promises to reshape the landscape of international trade and innovation.

India, renowned as the world's largest democracy, continues to emerge as a global economic powerhouse, offering unparalleled opportunities for businesses aiming to expand their footprint on the international stage. Slovenia, with its rich heritage in engineering and technology, excels in sectors including space, automobiles, control systems, environment, food and beverage, and healthcare. The India-Slovenia SITE network is poised to serve as a bi-directional conduit for companies in both countries, facilitating seamless entry into each other’s markets and thereby bolstering the EU-India trade corridor.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Mateja Vodeb, Slovenian Ambassador to India, expressed enthusiasm about the network's potential to streamline Slovenian companies' entry into the dynamic Indian market. Highlighting an existing partnership that enhances floodplain mapping through remote sensing capabilities, H.E. Vodeb anticipates further collaboration in satellite development and management.

Dr. Vinod Tare, Founding Head of cGanga, reminisced about the journey since 2019, marking the MOU signing with Slovenia's Space.SI during the visit of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, the then President of India, to Slovenia. This collaboration underscores the deep-rooted ties and mutual commitment to advancing technological and environmental solutions.

 

Mr. G Asok Kumar, the former Director General of the National Mission for Clean Ganga, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, highlighted India's role as a beacon for global innovation. The Environment & Technology Verification (ETV) programme, initiated under his leadership, exemplifies India's dedication to providing a platform for innovative companies to test and scale their solutions in real-world settings.

 

The India-Slovenia SITE network has already garnered significant interest, with over 100 Indian companies joining forces to explore collaborative ventures. Sanmit Ahuja, an Expert Member at cGanga and manager of the network, announced plans for a similar launch event in Slovenia, encouraging Slovenian entities to partake in this exciting new chapter of India-Slovenia cooperation.

 

The India-Slovenia SITE Network not only symbolizes the shared ambitions of both nations but also lays the foundation for a future where innovation and economic growth are driven by collaborative excellence.

 

The network has initiated with collaborations in the areas of space and environment, and is already expanding to other areas such as semiconductor design and electric vehicles, said Tea Pirih, Economic Counsellor at the Slovenian Embassy at New Delhi.
